講 題:Analysis on Empirical Mode Decomposition and Effect of "Full-rank Property"

摘 要:Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) is a crucial part of Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) proposed by Norden E. Huang, et al in 1998. Since then, this algorithm has been widely applied in engineering. However, its lack of mathematical foundations has been frowned upon by mathematicians, and people have made great effort trying to find the mathematical structure of it, especially when various fields gained valuable insights with this algorithm.
In this talk, I will separate my work into two parts. In the first part, I generalized part of Flandrin, et al’s work in 2008 in attempt to derive criteria for successful decomposition of signals (The primary goal of EMD). As for the second part, I studied the behavior of heaviside functions under EMD, due to interests in modeling of ion channels. I introduced the notion of “full-rank” property to point out that there are cases when we must treat our domain of EMD as a discrete grid instead of the real line no matter how fine the grid is.
