知名幾何學家Richard Schoen 臺大數學系訪問講座系列演講

知名幾何學者Richard Schoen(孫理察)將於近日訪問本系,並做系列學術演講。底下為英文簡介。

簡介

Prof. Richard Schoen (Stanford University / University of California Irvine) is a world leading figure in Differential Geometry, Nonlinear Analysis, and Mathematical Relativity. He is the Bass Professor of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University, Distinguished Professor at University of California Irvine.

Schoen was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 1983, and the Bôcher Memorial Prize for his work on the Yamabe problem in 1989. He joined the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1988 and the National Academy of Sciences in 1991, and won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1996. In 2012 he became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.

演講摘要

Much of our intuition about scalar curvature is tied up with notions of gravitational mass in general relativity. In this series of talks we will discuss results and open questions in this field. Topics will include positive mass theorems, quasi-local mass, solving the scalar curvature and constraint equations, and the role of minimal hypersurfaces and their singularities which can occur in higher dimensions.
