Title: Special values of zeta-functions

Abstract:
The number of solutions of systems of polynomial equations over finite fields can be encoded in a single function, called zeta-functions. The values of this functions at  integers can often be expressed in terms of other invariants of the system of equations, leading to interesting formulas. In this talk, we will first review the definition and properties of zeta-functions, and then discuss how to define (conjecturally) finitely generated groups whose rank and order expresses the pole order and leading term of the zeta-function (generalizing the classical class number formula).
