講  題：Rational Points on Elliptic Curves

摘  要：An elliptic curve is the set of zeros of a cubic polynomial in two variables. If the polynomial has rational coefficients, one can ask for a description of those zeros whose coordinates are rational numbers, the so-called rational points. In this talk, I will introduce the group law of the set of those rational points of a given elliptic curve, and give a proof of the Mordell-Weil theorem, which states that the group of rational points is finitely generated on a certain condition. If time permits, I will also try to describe some applications of this theorem.
