主題:Mathematical approaches for large-scale multi-modal human brain imaging and modeling
Abstract:
Recent advance in medical imaging modalities, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetoencephalograhy( MEG), and electroenecephalography (EEG), enabled the possibility to explore the human brain structure and function non-invasively with an unprecedented spatiotemporal resolution. This technological achievement is tightly attributed to the support of mathematical theories of inverse problems, time-series analysis, and statistics. In this talk, I will briefly introduce the imaging principle of MRI and MEG and describe how mathematical tools can help improve the image quality within a single imaging modality and integrate the information among imaging modalities. We will present recent studies on human visual and auditory systems as well as medical and surgical planning for epilepsy patients using multi-modal neuroimaging data in order to demonstrate the significance of mathematics in neuroscience and clinical medicine.
