圖書分類法是圖書館組織館藏的重要工具。圖書館依據圖書內容所屬學科性質，依特定圖書分類法賦予分類號。透過系統化分類號，不僅能清楚辨識圖書內容所屬領域，並可將相同學科屬性圖書集中陳列，便於讀者瀏覽與查找，兼具館藏管理與圖書排架功能。臺大圖書館西文圖書分類依據美國國會圖書分類法，中日韓文圖書依據中文圖書分類法，數學領域圖書大致分類於QA與310~319。
