Abstract:

Much of our intuition about scalar curvature is tied up with notions of gravitational mass in general relativity. In this series of talks we will discuss results and open questions in this field. Topics will include positive mass theorems, quasi-local mass, solving the scalar curvature and constraint equations, and the role of minimal hypersurfaces and their singularities which can occur in higher dimensions.
