I will speak about a joint project with Hui-Wen Lin and Chin-Lung Wang (National Taiwan University) on the study of functoriality of Gromov--Witten theory. The talk will start with a general introduction to Gromov--Witten theory. After reviewing the past work on flops, I will report on a work in progress regarding flips and blow-ups.
