Jing Yu received a B.S. in Mathematics from National Taiwan Normal University. Afterwards he went to the United States and studied Mathematics at Yale University with Serge Lang. He went back to Taiwan immediately after receiving his Ph.D in 1980 and joined the Academia Sinica as an associated research fellow. In the year 1982/84 he traveled to France, as Boursier du gouvernement francais at Orsay (Universite de Paris-Sud). He was promoted to research fellow by the Academia Sinica in 1985. In the year 1987/88, he was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. He has also been a short period visiting member at the Max Planck Institut fur Mathematik in Germany, IHES in France, MSRI at Berkeley, Morningside Center at Beijing, and Université de Paris 7. From 1997 to 1999, he came to NTHU to serve as head of the mathematics division for the newly established NSC Center for Theoretical Sciences. He went again to NTHU in 2002 as professor of mathematics, and reassumed the position of head of mathematics division at NTCS from 2002/2009. He was also director of NCTS from 2006 to 2009. As a descendent of the Artin school, Jing Yu is interested in all phases of Number Theory and Arithmetical Algebraic Geometry. In the last three decades he has done major works in the arithmetic of function fields, especially transcendence theory, and arithmetic of Drinfeld modules. ¡@ ¡@ |
