- To find a suitable linear algebra book for my honors linear algebra class a few years ago, I looked into many textbooks. At the end, I came back to my old favorite by Hoffman and Kunze. It is clear, concise, elegant and self-contained. It is a pleasure to read. It covers all standard material a linear algebra book should cover. There are carefully crafted problem sets throughout the book. Going through a problem set typically requires the reader to have a decent grasp of the material. For me, it is still by far the best text on the introduction to linear algebra.
