摘要

Abstract: Bioinformatics has become a hot research topic both in Taiwan and world-wide recently. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of bioinformatics, it can be introduced from the biology, mathematics or IT perspectives. I will try to balance the three elements in this talk. First, I will present a general view of bioinformatics, especially from the biology and life science's view. Second, I will introduce the mathematics-bound sequence alignment problem, and show how it can lead to the advance of Comparative Genomics. Third, I will share with the audience the bioinformatics research experience in ITRI, which is an example of the promising multi-disciplinary collaboration paradigm.
